Commitment! Former BYU Pledge Flips to UVA!

Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

Even though a day is a day filled with joy about Letters of Intent rolling into McCue from players that had already pledged to wear the orange and blue in the fall, Coach Mendenhall and the staff are able to celebrate a commitment from a player that had not made his intentions known!

Hawaii RB Wayne Taulapapa informed the UVa staff this morning that he has ended his recruitment and will be coming to Charlottesville this fall.

The 24/7 three star running back, Tualapapa was formerly committed to Mendenhall and staff during their time at BYU, but at the end of December, he informed the new staff at BYU that he was opening his recruitment back up. At the time of his commitment, the RB at least still had offers from BYU, UNLV, Hawaii, and Colorado.

It's likely that Virginia's RB coach, Mark Atuaia had a strong hand in this recruitment as Atuaia is from Hawaii himself and had established quite a relationship with the RB while he was at BYU.

The three star RB will join fellow incoming recruit Tre Harbison as the two RBs Coach Mendenhall has brought in this recruiting period, although Harbison will likely have a leg up on Tualapapa as Harbison enrolled in Charlottesville last month and is already working out with the Cavaliers.

Check out some of Tualapapa's highlights from high school below.
