In his February 8th bracketology update, Joe Lunardi has the Virginia Cavaliers men's basketball team as a two-seed in the Midwest bracket, where Iowa sits as the top seed.
Virginia held steady at #2 after systematically dismantling Pitt over the weekend. This projected bracket has Virginia playing its first-round game in nearby Raleigh against Stephen F. Austin. A date with either in-state rival VCU or PAC-12 player of the year candidate Jakob Poeltl and the Utah Utes would await in the round of 32.
The Atlantic Coast Conference leads the way with eight teams in Lunardi's bracket. Not among those teams: the Louisville Cardinals, who announced a self-imposed postseason ban as investigations continue into alleged recruiting violations. The PAC-12 trails the ACC with seven teams.
Syracuse and Florida State both sit among the last four in, while Clemson is just behind in the first four out grouping. Early-season opponent Cal is slotted for a first-round matchup with Duke.
