HALFTIME: Virginia 33, Clemson 27

Huge start from Brogdon powers Hoos to halftime lead

Dawson Powers-USA TODAY Sports

Behind 14 points from ACC Player of the Year candidate and Oscar Robertson Trophy finalist Malcolm Brogdon, Virginia holds a six-point lead over the Clemson Tigers, 33-27.

Virginia's 12-0 run to start the game made the game look like an early runaway. By the time the under-16 media timeout arrived, Brogdon and London Perrantes had each hit a three-point basket and Clemson was yet to put anything through the rim.

But Clemson responded with an 8-0 run of its own to close the gap. Jarron Blossomgame matched Brogdon's 14 points to pace the Tigers, and Landry Nnoko chipped in 4 rebounds as well. Gabe Devoe is the only Clemson player with more than one foul.

Anthony Gill leads Virginia with 5 rebounds.

The first twenty minutes were difficult for Evan Nolte and Mike Tobey. Nolte committed three fouls in only three minutes of playing time. Tobey missed both of his field goal attempts and committed two turnovers. Hopefully the seniors can find some extra mojo to boost the Hoos through the next several weeks.
