Virginia used a big 5-run first inning to take what would ultimately be an insurmountable lead in the first of a three-game series over No. 1 Miami last night. For their efforts, the Cavaliers were named the Team of the Day from Aaron Fitt at D1Baseball.com.

Here's an excerpt from the full article, which you should read here.

Since losing three straight series against Louisville, NC State and Boston College, the defending national champs have played better in the last two weeks, taking a series from North Carolina last weekend and now winning the opener against Miami. This season has been a grind for Virginia, which is getting by with a thinner pitching staff than usual, but Doyle's poise was a very encouraging sign for the stretch run.

The Hoos and the Hurricanes face off for Game 2 of the series at 7:00 p.m. tonight in Miami.
