Baseball Final Weekend: ACC Tournament Outlook

Peter G. Aiken-USA TODAY Sports

We've only got three games left for the teams of the ACC. That means we're less than a week away from Tuesday's opening round games and we need to take stock of where UVa and the rest of the teams are.

What we know:
- Miami is the Coastal Division champion. They'll be the #1 or #2 seed.
- Virginia Tech isn't going to come near Durham next week.
- FSU or Louisville will win the Atlantic Division even though FSU can't get the 19 wins Louisville already has (Noles have had 4 rainouts this season).

Standings

1. Miami (40-9, 19-6)
Final Weekend: at FSU
Durham Outlook: 1 seed.
If the Canes can win two of three in Tallahassee they'll lock up the #1 seed. Even though the series is at FSU, the Canes are playing much better baseball right now.

2. Louisville (42-10, 19-8)
Final Weekend: at Wake Forest
Durham Outlook
: 2 seed. Louisville has to take two of three to lock up the Atlantic. They'll have to sweep and hope the Noles can take at least two from Miami to earn the #1 seed.

3. Florida State (33-17, 15-8)
Final Weekend: vs. Miami
Durham Outlook: 4 seed.
The Noles could use their four rainouts in their favor. They lost two games to NC St, but also two against BC. Should they lose the series to Miami, they could be staring at falling to the 4 seed next week.

4. Virginia (33-18, 16-11)
Final Weekend: vs. VT
Durham Outlook: 3 seed.
We'll assume the Cavaliers win the series this weekend. Should that happen, the boys can only be the three or four, depending on what FSU does against Miami.

5. NC State (32-17, 13-12)
Final Weekend: vs. UNC
Durham Outlook: 6 seed.
The Wolfpack are the team that could end up anywhere from the 4 seed to the 7 seed. They've got a tough rivalry series this weekend at UNC, so this could affect their ACC and NCAA tournament dreams.

6. Clemson (34-18, 13-14)
Final Weekend: at Notre Dame
Durham Outlook: 5 seed.
Clemson is going to playing for the chance to not play on Tuesday this weekend against Notre Dame. Luckily they have an easier task than NC State, but not by much. They do hold the tiebreaker over the Wolfpack thanks to taking two of three a few weeks ago.

7. Wake Forest (31-20, 13-14)
Final Weekend: vs. Louisville
Durham Outlook: 8 seed.
Wake needs to steal a game from Louisville. If they can, they could force a tie with Duke and earn the 8 seed after they won their series with the Blue Devils earlier in the season.

8. Georgia Tech (33-18, 12-14)
Final Weekend: vs. Boston College
Durham Outlook: 7 seed.
GT had a chance at a good seed but blew it this past weekend in Charlottesville. They get to play at home this weekend, which should help, but BC is not as bad as previous seasons.

9. Duke (31-21, 12-15)
Final Weekend: at Pitt
Durham Outlook: 9 seed.
Pitt isn't terrible, but Duke is playing some pretty good baseball right now winning seven of their last eight, including a series victory over FSU.

10. North Carolina (33-19, 12-15)
Final Weekend: at NC State
Durham Outlook: 10 seed
. Before winning their series against Notre Dame last weekend, the Heels had dropped three straight ACC series. If they get swept this weekend they might miss the ACC Tournament altogether.

11. Notre Dame (27-24, 11-14)
Final Weekend: vs. Clemson
Durham Outlook: Nope.
The Irish still have life in terms of making the ACC Tournament, but they'll have to get through a Clemson team that has not lost a series in nearly a month. The Irish have struggled against the top half of the conference this year as well.

12. Boston College (29-18, 11-14)
Final Weekend: at Georgia Tech
Durham Outlook: Nope.
Like Notre Dame, BC still has hopes of making it to Durham, and they've been playing good ball, having only lost one series since beating Virginia in early April. But playing a desperate GT team on the road could be a tough hill to climb.

13. Pittsburgh (25-24, 10-16)
Final Weekend: vs. Duke
Durham Outlook: Nope.
If the Panthers can sweep Duke this weekend they'll have a shot at playing next Tuesday in Durham, but I'm not sure they'll even have enough to win the series against the Blue Devils this weekend.

14. Virginia Tech (19-33, 6-21)
Final Weekend: at Virginia
Durham Outlook: LoL, that ship sailed like three weeks ago

So there it all is. Nearly every team has a shot at the ACC Tournament. Buckle up, it could be a hell of a finish this weekend in the ACC.
