NCAA Baseball: Lubbock Regional Day One

Should the Hoos be able to take care of business in Charlottesville, they'll face the winner of the Lubbock Regional hosted by the number five national seed Texas Tech Red Raiders. Here what happened on day one.

The winner of the Charlottesville Regional will face the winner of the regional out in Lubbock, Texas. Host Texas Tech is the only national seed not from the ACC or SEC and the didn't disappoint on the first day of action. Here's a glimpse of the day's games.

Texas Tech 12 - Fairfield 1

The host Red Raiders had no trouble with the Stags, champions of the MAAC, banging out 16 hits on their way to a 12-1 win. Davis Martin was super efficient pitching 7.0 innings, giving up one earned run on five hits, while striking out four.  The win runs his record to an impressive 9-0 on the year. At the plate every Red Raider batter in the starting lineup registered at least one hit with lead off man Stephen Smith who was 3-3 on the day leading the way. Left fielder, Tyler Neslony had himself a day going 2-4 with four RBI.

New Mexico 12 - Dallas Baptist 6

In the second game of the Lubbock Regional, the hits just kept on coming. The New Mexico Lobos jumped out to a 7-0 lead through six but had to get out of a bases loaded jam leading 7-5 before eventually winning 12-6. New Mexico's Colton Thompson picked up the win, cruising through before getting touched for four runs in the bottom of the sixth. Luis Gonzalez led the way for the Lobos bats going 4-4 with five RBI, while Andrew Pratt had two hits and three RBI including a solo home run in the top of the sixth. Jameson Hannah helped make things interesting for the Patriots with a three run home run in the bottom of the sixth, three of his four RBI on the day.

Dallas Baptist takes on Fairfield in the first game at 3 P.M. Saturday with the loser being eliminated. New Mexico gets a chance at the Red Raiders at 7 P.M. to take control of the regional.
