GAME THREAD: Virginia football at Connecticut, Week Two

LET’S GOOOOOOOOOOOO

Okay, so an 0-2 start wasn’t what everyone had in mind when the season began two weeks ago. Some fans even began depressing talk of a winless season after the setback against Richmond. In doing so, all they did was demonstrate to the world that they hadn’t watched college football closely for years, but’s that not the point here.

The point here is that for a football team that is going through growing pains while adjusting to new schemes and coaches while dealing with personnel shortages, today’s game is a golden opportunity. Today we face a Connecticut team that narrowly beat FCS opponent Maine, and then saw a comeback attempt against Navy fall painfully short. The Hoos are only 4 point underdogs here on the road. They can do this. The offense needed can be cobbled together Frankenstein style. Take the running game from Oregon, passing from Richmond, maybe give Kurt Benkert a little something to mellow him out just a tad, and you’ve got a good looking squad. On defense…well at least the secondary won’t be trying to keep up with an Olympic sprinter today.

If you had hoped the Hoos would make your holiday plans for you this year with a bowl trip, this game is pretty much a must-win. The fact that we’re at that point already is regrettable, but those are the cards we’ve been dealt.

The game thread is open.
