ACC Basketball Power Rankings: Hoos in First?

Duke, UNC, Louisville, and UVa all lost early in conference play - so who should be #1?

1) Duke (12-2) Last Week: 1

Duke got absolutely wrecked in Blacksburg, while playing without their star douchenozzle, Greyson Allen. Considering all the other losing that went on in the conference, the Blue Devils stayed atop our rankings.

2) Virginia (11-2) Last Week: 4

The Hoos got a statement win on the road against Louisville, but failed to bolster their contender status by losing at home to FSU and a slew of terrible bacon-related headlines. Still, they certainly deserved to leap above the Cardinals - and considering what happened to UNC, we’ve got them at number 2.

3) Florida State (14-1) Last Week: 5

Dwayne Bacon has my vote for best player in the ACC, so far. As the Noles outpaced Wake Forest and secured a big upset in Hooville, they jumped a couple of spots in our rankings.

4) Louisville (12-2) Last Week: 2

Despite getting embarrassed by the Hoos on their home court, the Cardinals sandwiched that game between two great wins against IU and Kentucky. The ACC is the best conference in the country, clearly.

5) North Carolina (12-3) Last Week: 3

Good grief, Roy. While one conference road loss doesn’t doom a contender’s season, the loss at Georgia Tech has to be a head-scratching one for the baby blue faithful.

6) Virginia Tech (12-1) Last Week: 7

#THATnotHOWtitleCASEworks

7) Notre Dame (12-2) Last Week: 6

The Irish used a last second three to beat Pitt on the road and won their pair of games this week, but dropped a spot more so due to VT’s big blowout over Duke. The mid tier of the ACC could easily be the top tier by the end of the season.

8) Clemson (11-2) Last Week: 8

Getting past Wake Forest and UNCW weren’t enough for the Tigers to climb in our poll. They’ll get their chance in their next two games: against UNC and Notre Dame

9) Miami (11-2) Last Week: 9

The Canes have won 7 straight, including opening ACC play with a buttkicking of NC State. They’ll have to wait for a couple of weeks for some better resume-boosting games.

10) Pittsburgh (11-3) Last Week: 10

Pitt lost a heartbreaker at home to Notre Dame on a last second shot - a familiar thing in this conference. They’ll get another shot at a home upset when the Hoos visit this week.

11) Georgia Tech (9-4) Last Week: 14

Josh Pastor you saucy minx, you. Wins over UNC and VCU should serve notice to the rest of the ACC: GT is capable of winning basketball games.

12) NC State (11-3) Last Week: 12

The Wolfpack beat Rider but got absolutely trucked on the road at Miami. The visiting Hokies provide NC State with a suddenly-huge (and unlikely) win this week.

13) Wake Forest (9-5) Last Week: 11

Danny Manning’s squad had a chance to show that they’re over the hump of mediocrity this week and blew it. Suddenly, hosting BC looks like to gimme on Tuesday.

14) Boston College (8-6) Last Week: 15

Boston College joined the Bad Teams Who Have Beaten Syracuse Club this week - good for you, Boston College.

15) Syracuse (8-6) Last Week: 13

The Syracuse Zone gave up 96 points to Boston College. Looks like that statement comeback huge win over Cornell did not put the Orange back on track, ESPN.
