ACC Basketball Power Rankings: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Everyone keeps losing and winning and we really don’t know who goes where.

NCAA Basketball: Virginia Tech at Florida State Glenn Beil-USA TODAY Sports

I’m panicked, too, Coach Hamilton. Panicked because I can’t make sense of the ACC. Clearly America’s premier basketball conference is going to be a challenge for its members this season. Teams keep collecting standout wins and disappointing losses...and we’re not even at the halfway point. Who knows how this will all end up - but here’s how we have it currently:

1) Duke (14-2) Last Week: 1

Greyson Allen kicked a guy, Harry Giles is getting better and better, and a couple of wins over ACC basement dwellers have the Blue Devils at #1.

2) Florida State (15-1) Last Week: 3

The Noles followed up their big buzzer beater over UVa by drubbing VT in Tallahassee. Tomorrow’s game hosting Duke could solidify their standing as a championship contender.

3) North Carolina (14-3) Last Week: 5

Roy’s boys squeaked by Clemson on the road and beat NC State by 300 points. Theo Pinson is back for the Heels, whose loss to Georgia Tech still makes absolutely no sense.

4) Virginia (12-3) Last Week: 2

Back to back heartbreaking losses have the Hoos dropping a couple of spots in our rankings. A win on the road against Clemson, coming off the home win against Wake, could shoot them back up for sure.

5) Notre Dame (14-2) Last Week: 7

The Irish are 3-0 in ACC games - all close wins over Pitt, Louisville, and Clemson. They’ve got three in a row on the road now, so it could be a tough week ahead.

6) Louisville (13-3) Last Week: 4

UK? Win. UVa? Loss. IU? Win. Notre Dame? Loss. GT? Win. Pitt?...we’ll see on Wednesday.

7) Clemson (11-4) Last Week: 8

The Tigers lost two close ones to UNC and Notre Dame - so naturally they moved up in our rankings. Clearly, an indication of the mess that is the rest of the conference.

8) Virginia Tech(12-3) Last Week: 6

Tweets, however...well tweets last forever.

9) Miami (11-3) Last Week: 9

The Canes drubbed NC State and then promptly lost big @ Syracuse. I really don’t know what to make of the mid tier of this conference. I know no one does, but still. Get it together, ACC.

10) Pittsburgh (12-4) Last Week: 10

Will the OT win over UVa be an outlier in Pitt’s ACC play? Wednesday’s game at Louisville could be a big indicator for the Panthers.

11) Syracuse (10-6) Last Week: 15

I knew you were going to pull this crap, Syracuse. 10 bucks says the Orange win @ VT and beat BC - putting them at 4-1 in the ACC next week.

12) Wake Forest (10-6) Last Week: 13

It’s certainly early in conference play, but Wake Forest is still looking for their turned-the-corner kind of win. Hosting UNC might not present a good chance, but Miami and NC State definitely do next week.

13) NC State (12-4) Last Week: 12

Getting blown out by Miami and UNC, while still managing to dominate Virginia Tech, is hilarious and confounding. Well coached, Mark Gottfried. Well coached, indeed.

14) Georgia Tech (9-6) Last Week: 11

I’m thinking the Yellow Jackets spent all their karma on the UNC victory - as they’ve reverted to doormat status against Duke and Louisville.

15) Boston College (8-8) Last Week: 14

Back to the basement for you, Boston College. Shame. Shame. Shame.
