The Virginia Cavaliers got an impressive performance out of redshirt first year Jay Huff in Monday night’s game against Austin Peay.

As you can see in the highlights, Huff scored in a variety of ways. He had two threes, a put-back dunk, a tip in, a long jumper, a fadeaway jumper, and a mid-range jumper. On top of the 7-for-8 shooting, he corralled four rebounds, dished out two dimes, and accounted for all five of Virginia’s blocks. Not a bad night’s work.
His performance garnered attention from our friends over at Duke Basketball Report, and even Sam Vecenie, who writes about college and professional basketball for the Athletic, noticed.
I’m pretty high on UVA in general (as noted last week), but I definitely did not see what Jay Huff did tonight coming. Good lord. 16/4/2/5 with a couple of 3s.

Also, he’s 7-foot-1.
Today, Erich Bacher, who is the Sports Information Director for the men’s team, tweeted Huff’s performance along with the debut numbers for some of UVA’s notable alums.
Having some fun. Notable @UVAMensHoops debuts:

Now I’m not ready to start making room in the rafters yet, but it’s an encouraging start for the Wahoos’ 7-foot-1 sharpshooter.
Next up, Huff and the Hoos hit the road to face in-commonwealth foe VCU. The game is Friday at 4pm (?!?) and will be televised on the CBS Sports Network.
