Two more weeks left and we finally got a new #1 for the POWER RANKINGS. Now we’ll get to see if the Canes can keep this up through the ACC Championship Game.
1. Miami-Florida Hurricanes (9-0, 6-0). Last week: 2
Last game: win 41-8 vs. Notre Dame. This week: vs. UVa.
The Turnover Chain has real powers. I’m convinced of this. Mark Richt made a deal with Jesus after he left Georgia. I’m not sure what the details of this deal was, but it was definitely worth it.
2. Clemson Tigers (9-1, 7-1). Last week: 1
Last game: win 31-14 vs. FSU. This week: vs. The Citadel
Oh how the mighty have fallen. Clemson’s defense is considered elite. Clemson’s offense on the other hand, not so much. After their bye week this week, the Tigers will have a string of difficult games and that offense will have to come through.
3. N.C. State Wolfpack (7-3, 5-1). Last week: 4
Last game: win 17-14 at BC. This week: at Wake.
Give credit to the Pack. After losing hard games at Notre Dame and against Clemson, they showed up and pulled out a W in Chestnut Hill. No, they won’t win the Atlantic, but almost the entire ACC would take a 9-3 season.
4. Virginia Tech Hokies (7-3, 3-3). Last week: 3
Last game: loss 28-22 at GT. This week: vs. Pitt
That letdown in Miami led to another letdown in Atlanta this past week for the Hokies. Fuente’s offense isn’t clicking perfectly and the Hokies are only averaging 31.5 points a game, good for 46th best.
5. Louisville Cardinals (6-4, 3-4). Last week: 8
Last game: win 38-21 vs. UVa. This week: vs. Syracuse
Lamar Jackson is not of this world and it is not fair for a team to possess his talents. Hoos didn’t stand a chance last weekend.
6. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (5-4, 4-3). Last week: 6
Last game: win 28-22 vs. VT. This week: at Duke
One more win to get to 6. The bad news is the Yellow Jackets have Georgia in the final weekend and UGA is trying to keep its playoff hopes alive. Duke is not a pushover, but they even struggled last weekend against the triple option in a loss to Army in West Point.
7. Boston College Eagles (5-5, 3-4). Last week: 5
Last game: loss 17-14 vs. NC State. This week: UCONN
BC needs one more W for the a bowl appearance and, as we all know, UConn is LOLz bad this season. Not to mention BC is just about the best team in the country.
8. Wake Forest Demon Deacons (6-4, 3-3). Last week: 9
Last game: win 64-43 at Syracuse. This week: vs. NC State
John Wolford passed for three touchdowns and rushed for three while accounting for 499 yards of offense. Good grief. Not to mention Cuse was up 17 points at one point and lost by 21.
9 (tie). Florida State Seminoles (3-6, 3-5). Last week: 10
Last game: loss 31-14 at Clemson. This week: vs. Delaware State
Having rescheduled their game against Louisiana-Monroe, it looks like the Noles might get to 6 wins after all and take the place of a team in a bowl that FSU fans and players won’t care about. I for one am hoping Florida or ULM can pull off the upset.
9 (tie). Virginia Cavaliers (6-4, 3-3). Last week: 7
Last game: loss 38-21 at Louisville. This week: at Miami
Hoos didn’t stand a chance against Lamar. We all knew that, we just didn’t want to recognize it coming off the euphoria of the W against Georgia Tech. Whatever pact Richt made with Jesus, Bronco needs to make with the Mormon version. Get to 10+ wins next year.
11 (tie). Pittsburgh Panthers (4-6, 2-4). Last week: 12
Last game: loss 34-31 vs. UNC. This week: at VT
Pitt doesn’t stand a chance in Lane Stadium this weekend, but if they can get the Hokies to turn a couple ankles or something that might keep a few starters out for next week’s game (nothing permanent of course), I’m all for it.
11 (tie). Syracuse Orange (4-6, 2-4). Last week: 11
Last game: loss 64-43 vs. Wake. This week: at Louisville.
The Orange have to win their last two against Louisville and BC if they want to make a bowl game. In other news, they are not making a bowl game (at least not with a 6-6 record). That’s what happens when you blow a 17 point lead.
13. Duke Blue Devils (4-6, 1-5). Last week: 12
Last game: loss 21-16 at Army. This week: vs. GT
In the 4th quarter on Saturday, Army rolled off a 18-play drive that took up over 10 minutes. It resulted in a blocked field goal, but man was it impressive. This week Duke gets to take on another triple-option attack with better athletes and a threat that the QB will throw it.
14. North Carolina Tar Heels (2-8, 1-6). Last week: 14
Last game: win 34-31 at Pitt. This week: vs. Western Carolina
Hoops! Hoops! Hoops!
