The Virginia men’s basketball team broke into the rankings this week, coming in at #18 in the AP poll.

Virginia was not ranked in the polls for the preseason or the first two weeks of the season, breaking a 63-week streak dating back to 2014. Virginia did appear in last week’s Coaches Poll at #25. The Hoos are joined in this week’s rankings by ACC teams Duke (#1), Notre Dame (#5), Miami (#10), North Carolina (#13), and Louisville (#17). Future non-conference opponent West Virginia (#19) also earned a spot in the rankings.

The Hoos are one of five teams, along with Arizona State, Texas Tech, TCU, and Creighton, that joined the rankings this week after being unranked last week.
