Virginia basketball and South Carolina agree to two-game series

NCAA Basketball: Final Four-South Carolina vs Gonzaga Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

Virginia announced today that the Cavaliers and South Carolina Gamecocks have agreed to play a two games over the next two seasons.

Virginia will travel to Colonial Life Arena on Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2018, with the Gamecocks making the return trip to Charlottesville on Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2019. Last season, South Carolina made it to the 2017 Final Four where they fell just short to Gonzaga. The two teams haven’t met since 2002, and the Hoos hold a slim 25-24 lead in the all-time series.

South Carolina, coached by Frank Martin, are a solid addition to the non-conference schedule for the Hoos. This season, the Gamecocks are preseason #24 according to KenPom and receiving votes in both the AP and Coaches polls.

Fun fact: former Virginia big-man superstar Anthony Gill transferred to UVA from South Carolina.

Virginia kicks off their season on Friday against UNC-Greensboro. The game starts at 7pm and will be broadcast by ACC Network Extra.
