It’s hard to believe, but the Virginia Cavaliers’ 2017-2018 basketball campaign tips starts Friday night at home against UNC Greensboro! For the fourth straight year, we’re launching the Pack Line Pledge to benefit the One Love Foundation in honor of Yeardley Love.
The One Love Foundation was founded following the tragic events in 2010, when Virginia women's lacrosse player Yeardley Love was murdered by her on-again, off-again boyfriend George Huguely, a member of the Virginia men's lacrosse team. The organization works to raise awareness about the early warning signs of relationship abuse and to activate communities to change the statistics surrounding relationship violence. Today, according to One Love Foundation, one in three women, and one in four men, will experience relationship violence in their lifetime.
The highly vaunted Virginia defense makes each and every possession count for its opponents. Opponents will need every second of the shot clock to penetrate the pack line, and no fan base in the country gets rowdier than Virginia’s for a shot clock violation.
We’re encouraging all Virginia fans to take the Pack Line Pledge. Over the past three years, we’ve raised just shy of $20,000 for the One Love Foundation, and we want to blow it out of the water again.
Today, make your pledge. It can be $5. It can be $50. It can be whatever you want it to be. As the season progresses, each time Virginia holds an opponent to under 55 points, you’ll check back on this website to donate that amount. The tighter Virginia’s defense, the more money you’ll donate, and the more effective the One Love Foundation will become.
Virginia held 17 — more than half! -- of its opponents last year to under 55 points.
Ready to make your pledge? Make your pledge below, but check in after each successful pack line pledge game to officially make your donation!
