Devine verbally committed to Virginia the same week as Martin Weisz, who also just edged out Divine to be the first official signee of UVA’s 2018 class. Here was our scouting report on Devine from the summer:
Devine is listed 6-6 and 275 pounds, just like the other OT to commit this weekend, so he certainly fits the mold in the measurables Coach Tujague is looking for at the position. His high school asked him to execute some fairly complex blocking schemes, and his film shows him doing so very well. Most of what Devine shows is in the run game, which could be an indication he’ll be slotted to move inside or at least play right tackle and be more of a road-grading lineman than a pocket setting tackle.
Welcome to Virginia, Derek!
