Commitment from kicker Hunter Pearson shows Virginia’s focus on improving special teams

Second year in a row UVA puts specialist on scholarship

NCAA Football: Duke at Virginia Amber Searls-USA TODAY Sports

Name: Hunter Pearson
Hometown: Seneca, SC
Position: K
Ratings: *** (.8318 in 247 Composite)

Those June commits aren’t wasting any time on the morning of the early signing period. With letters already in from Martin Weisz and Derek Devine, the third member of UVA’s official 2018 signings is Hunter Pearson.

Here was the view of the Pearson commitment at the time, with help from Kohl’s Kicking Camps:

Pearson recently attended the 2017 Underclassman Challenge. He is close to challenge for the top spot on field goals and kickoffs in the 2018 class. The ball jumps off his foot and with continued refinement in his kickoffs, could very well be the best kickoff guy in the 2018 class. His punts were solid, his frame and athleticism are superior to most athlete. He will be someone to watch over the upcoming year as he sets himself apart by making field goals when the pressure is on him.

Welcome to Charlottesville, Hunter!
