Virginia adds commitment from Tavares Kelly as surprise end to early signing period

Kelly had been a cause for concern among many Virginia fans. He did not take an official visit to Charlottesville until this month, and had picked up offers from Wisconsin and Illinois since committing to UVA in April. To make matters worse, he was cagey about whether he would sign during the early period.

The cat came out of the bag a bit when Kelly replied to a congratulatory tweet.

Kelly will walk into Charlottesville as the presumed starting return man for both kicks and punts. He is ELECTRIC with the ball in his hands and maneuvers broken fields like a pro. Running track for St. Thomas Aquinas, Kelly set a personal best of 10.55 seconds in the 100 meters this spring. (He was also on the 4x100 relay team with Alphonso Blades, Jr., a four-star cornerback who signed with the Miami Hurricanes today.)
