It’s been exactly a month since the Virginia Cavaliers football team became bowl eligible in a heart-stopping win over Georgia Tech, and the team’s postseason destination is now official.
Virginia (6-6) will play in the Military Bowl on Dec. 28 against Navy at 1:30 p.m. for Military. The game will be broadcast on ESPN.

This is UVA’s first bowl game since the 2011 Chick-fil-A Bowl, where they lost to Auburn 43-24. The Wahoos haven’t won a bowl game since the 2005 Music City Bowl, a 34-31 rally over Minnesota after the Golden Gophers led 21-10 at halftime. This will be Virginia’s 19th bowl game all-time; their record is 7-11.
The Navy Midshipmen are 6-5 this season with one game remaining against Army on December 9. Navy (like Georgia Tech) is known for its triple-option attack, so it might be fitting that they’ll be Virginia’s first bowl opponent in the Bronco Mendenhall era. The Midshipmen started the season 5-0 before dropping five of their last six games.
