Name: Lamont Atkins
Position: RB
Hometown: Burke, VA (Lake Braddock)
247 Composite: 3*, 84.38
Atkins enrolled at Virginia in January as the reigning Gatorade Player of the Year in Virginia. He held offers from schools across the ACC and Big Ten, as well as Harvard, Yale, and Vanderbilt.
He has all the tools to be a feature back in the Anae offense. He’s patient, makes decisive cuts, then runs smooth as silk in the open field. Every time he touches the ball he’s a home run threat: Atkins averaged 1 TD every five carries in 2016. His biggest area of improvement is probably his hands, which is to be expected of high school backs. It would also be nice to see Atkins increase his top-end speed; right now his vision and balance get him into seams, but FBS defenders will close those gaps more quickly than even the most talented squads Atkins faced in high school.
