Name: Zachariah “Riah” Burton
Position: CB
Hometown: New Castle, DE (William Penn)
247 Composite: 2*, 79.29
Virginia was the only Power Five school to offer Burton, one of the Hoos’ four January enrollees. UConn and Temple were his other two FBS offers, with in-state FCS schools Delaware and Delaware State offering as well.
Instincts, discipline, and good reads help Burton make plays where other guys rely on more pure athleticism. He will break off of coverage to help a play developing behind him, and does not seem to be out of position very often. There’s some ACC-caliber athleticism on him too: good hops, but needs work on making clean catches when he has the opportunity for a pick. I could see him filling in a role as a nickel or slot corner who is most effective in zone or cover-match defense.
