Name: John Kirven
Position: DE
Hometown: Raleigh, NC (Woodberry Forest)
247 Composite: 3*, 83.50
Kirven—the younger brother of basketball God-legend Caid Kirven—initially committed to Virginia as a tight end under Mike London. The change of coaching regime led to Kirven reopening his recruitment and earning back his scholarship offer, just on the other side of the ball. He also held offers from Illinois, NC State, and Pitt.
His senior season tape is impressive, and doubly so when you factor in it was his first year playing defense. Kirven looks and plays much stronger than his listed 240 pounds, with the speed one would expect from a tight end. He gets moved around the formation, playing both with his hand in the dirt and standing up on the edge. If Kirven can add another 15 pounds or so of bulk, and develop the skills he’s only started to work on in 2016... look out.
