#HoosOnBoard17: Brian Delaney, K/P

New, comments

Name: Brian Delaney
Position: K, P
Hometown: Chantilly, VA (Westfield)
247 Composite: 3*, 80.07

After Delaney committed to Virginia in June 2016, he pretty much shut down his recruiting. Despite being an Under Armour All-American and a USA Today First-Team All-Virginia selection, no other schools offered the Northern Virginia specialist.

Delaney may not have the highest star rating of Virginia’s 2017 signees, but he probably is the newcomer with the closest thing to a guaranteed role his first year. Yes, earned not given and all that. But the place-kicking debacles last year earned Delaney a chance to get on the field. He’s a bit short for a punter (5’11) but good size for a place-kicker. His strong leg will be an asset on kickoffs and, with some form and technique coaching, he should be a more reliable option for PATs and FGs than the Hoos had at any point in 2016.

Welcome to UVA, Brian!
