For the third time in two days, a Virginia men’s basketball player is leaving the program.
Redshirt junior guard Darius Thompson is transferring, the school announced Thursday. Thompson’s departure marks the third so far on the young offseason for UVa, after it was announced Wednesday that Marial Shayok and Jarred Reuter are also parting ways with the team.
Thompson sat out the 2014-15 season after transferring from Tennessee, and made an impact in his first year with the memorable buzzer-beater to cap the team’s near-miraculous comeback at Wake Forest.
Thompson started 25 games in his two years at Virginia, and played all but one of the 71 games the team played in his time on Grounds. He was sixth on the team in scoring this past year with 6.2 points per game and shot .351 from three.
