ACC Tournament: Exclusive Interview With Seth Greenberg

Coach Greenberg dishes on UVA, the ACC, and future tournament locations, and gives a prediction for a Sunday winner.

Former Virginia Tech head coach Seth Greenberg stopped by the New York Life BGAL Live studio for an interview at the ACC Tournament this afternoon. The New York native talked about a number of different topics, including the Pack Line defense, the Virginia program’s hopes for a national title, and the depth of the league this year. He also weighed in on Brooklyn as an ACC Tournament location and gave a prediction for an ACC Tournament winner.

Here are a few highlights, in case you’re pressed for time.

On Brooklyn and future ACC tournament sites: “These are events. And the biggest events are played in the biggest cities. It’s important to play the ACC tournament in major media markets, because you want to get as much possibly as you can out of the event.”

On the depth of the league: “When the ACC was at its very best, every team had pros. Every team had top 50 players in the history of the game.”

On Tony Bennett and the UVA defense: “Tony Bennett has got a PhD in defense. In anything you do in life you want someone who’s an expert. There’s no greater expert in anything on the defensive side of the basketball than Tony Bennett.”

On whether Virginia fans can realistically start dreaming about a national title: “Virginia has developed an elite program. They have a great tradition. They’ve done a great job with the facilities. They’re one of those programs that if this work out, they have the chance to compete for a national championship.”

On an ACC tournament winner: “Carolina is my gut feeling, if they play defense like they played” on Thursday.
