North Carolina wins their sixth title.

NCAA Basketball: Final Four Championship Game-Gonzaga vs North Carolina
Meeks came up big for UNC.

The North Carolina Tar Heels won their sixth NCAA title with a 71-65 victory over the Gonzaga Bulldogs. Joel Berry led the Heels with 22 points on 7-for-19 shooting in a game punctuated with whistles. Neither team really got into a rhythm in the second half with both teams struggling with foul trouble.

Although both teams struggled from the floor with Gonzaga and North Carolina shooting 34% and 36%, respectively, the game was close throughout. Gonzaga led by three at the half and were within one with 1:40 remaining. A controversial jump ball possession by Kennedy Meeks gave UNC the ball back late, which led to a Theo Pinson bucket. A block by Meeks and dunk by Justin Jackson with 12 seconds left secured the win for the Tar Heels, ensuring their redemption from last season’s heartbreaking defeat at the buzzer by Villanova. Nigel Williams-Goss led Gonzaga with 15 points.

Here’s what you were waiting for!

No Virginia sighting in the video (though the team the Hoos beat in the first round is...hmmm).

However, this is the second straight season that Virginia has defeated the NCAA champion during the regular season. Remember when UVA held this UNC team to 43 points? Delightful. Just a few short months until it’s basketball season again!
