Virginia Quarterback Kurt Benkert is Healthy and Ready for 2017

Now a two-year veteran under Bronco Mendenhall, Benkert is more confident than ever.

NCAA Football: ACC Kickoff Jeremy Brevard-USA TODAY Sports

Last week’s ACC Football Kickoff gave Virginia fans their first glimpse at what head coach Bronco Mendenhall has been up to in getting the Virginia Cavaliers ready for the 2017 campaign. Senior quarterback Kurt Benkert, the veteran starter who finally has the job without controversy, looks to be healthy and ready heading into fall camp.

Fighting through injuries for much of the past two years, Benkert says he’s now starting to find some of his explosiveness back, and everyone is saying that he’s looking healthier, leaner, and fitter than ever.

Here’s what Mendenhall and Benkert had to say about Benkert’s status in 2017.

If Benkert’s health holds and he can find a little protection and help downfield, maybe there’s something in the offense for Virginia fans to be excited about after all.
