It may only be July, but it feels like basketball season is just around the corner. Nine days ago, Virginia Basketball shared their first summer session video. Yesterday, Virginia’s ACC slate was re-released (or re-confirmed, really), and UVA basketball shared this video of Tony Bennett:
ICYMI: Coach TB Talks The Future of #UVA https://t.co/9E24fCdNjt #GoHoos
— Virginia Basketball (@UVAMensHoops) July 21, 2017
In it, Bennett discusses the “new era” and “changing of the guard” with the team for this season. He talks about the potential of the young players, as well as the solid leadership they’ll get from Isaiah Wilkins and Devon Hall.
Bennett makes a great point about the fact that the class of Ty Jerome, Kyle Guy, Mamadi Diakite, Jay Huff, and DeAndre Hunter will be able to learn, grow, and progress as a unit. “Virginia Basketball has really excelled when a group of players have grown and developed and been seasoned over the course of time,” Bennett says in the video. “When they become upperclassmen in a group with talent...we’ve seen some wonderful things happen.”
He finishes out the short clip by talking about the upcoming season and how he describes the team as “sneaky good” (YAAAASSSS TONY). Considering many experts have left Virginia out of the preseason top 25 or placed the Hoos at 7th or worse in preseason ACC polls, sneaky good is a fun place to be.
“It’s a good time to be a part of Virginia Basketball.” Amen, Coach.
