Incoming first year student Joshua Richardson, set to be a freshman member of the Virginia diving team, passed away during Summer Session III, the Cavalier Daily reports.
The date and cause of death were not disclosed in the email that Dean of Students Allen Groves sent to the University community on Monday night.
Virginia Head Diving Coach Jason Glorius said that Richardson “could do some crazy stuff on a trampoline and diving board” and “he was poised to really contribute to our program.”
Originally from Mishikawa, Indiana, Richardson had finished as high as second in the 2015 Indiana High School Athletic Association state meet in the boys 1 M diving. He was the son of Mark and Linda Richardson and one of 11 children.
Our hearts are with the Richardson family and the University community.
