The last few days have been rough, to say the least, for Virginia alumni, for Charlottesville residents, for most Americans, and for many around the world. There’s no room in our society for what happened in Charlottesville on August 11-12, 2017. Though we published some words on Sunday, there really are no words to precisely capture how we’re feeling.
We made this graphic over the weekend (credit goes to STL’s Alex Cheung), and we received a lot of feedback that many people would love this as a shirt. We’ve made it just that.
All of the proceeds from this shirt will go towards the Streaking the Lawn Annual Fund.
Each year, Streaking the Lawn takes its annual fund (money earned through shirt sales, advertising dollars, etc.) and we donate it to a charity of interest to the UVA and Charlottesville communities. We typically select our organization at year end, so while we haven’t made a decision yet, this year’s charity will be related to this past weekend’s events. We’re waiting to see what the various organizations are doing so that we can make an educated choice down the road.
Hopefully our history of donating to charity has earned us your trust that we won’t squander your funds (Special Olympics of Virginia (2010), The Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Virginia (2011), Cavaliers Against Cancer (2012), the oncology center of UVA Children’s Hospital (2013), Blue Ridge Area Food Bank (2014), the Sexual Assault Resource Agency (2015), and Chris Long’s Waterboys initiative (2016)).
