The #12 Virginia men’s soccer team went on the road to Blacksburg and took down the Hokies 2-1 on Friday night.
Virginia dominated throughout the game, taking the lead at the eight minute mark thanks to a strike from Edward Opoku - his first of two in the game. Va Tech’s home crowd of 2,143 could only watch as the Hoos used precision passing and a solid game from goalkeeper Jeff Caldwell to keep the Hokies at bay.
Caldwell finished with four saves, including this highlight reel worth block:

Va Tech outshot the Hoos 11-4, but Virginia was highly efficient as they scored on two of their three shots on goal. Opoku connected on the game-winning game in the 50th minute as he stayed after a broken play and took advantage.
The Hokies scored with under 30 seconds left in the contest, and the Hoos picked up the first Commonwealth Clash point of the new season. The win was also a big one for head coach George Gelnovatch.
