For the Virginia Cavaliers, every year is a blank slate when it comes to proving themselves to their teammates and coaches. Everyone starts on equal footing, and from there, throughout summer workouts and fall camp, to the victors go the spoils. Over the past weekend, 41 players earned the right to choose their jersey numbers for the upcoming 2018-2019 campaign, and for the third straight season, it was tailback Jordan Ellis who earned himself the first overall selection.
“The most consistent, the hardest working, the most productive, and the least talkative...less drama, more work—that’s just who the guy is,” Mendenhall said as he announced that Ellis had the first selection.
As camp continues, more players will have the opportunity to select their numbers, but in the meantime, watch highlights of the jersey selection ceremony below.
