Last week, we detailed the differences the NCAA Selection Committee was making to the team sheets. After starting the season 17-1 and their only loss coming on the road in West Virginia, the Cavaliers were looking pretty good in the eyes of the selection committee.
At the time of writing, warrennolan.com has Virginia as the #4 overall RPI and within striking distance of all three teams ahead of them.
This week, after a dominant performance at home against a Clemson team with a Top 10 RPI and a road victory at Wake Forest, the Hoos’ team sheet is looking even better.
Since Clemson is currently sitting at #6 in the RPI, UVa’s 25 point victory gives them another Quad 1 win and with Wake Forest at #129, they just barely sneak in the cutoff to give another Quad 2 victory.
The upcoming week has a road game at #1 RPI Duke and a home game against #18 RPI Louisville. Obviously the Duke game will stay in Quad 1 because the Blue Devils will never fall out of the Top 75, but if the wheels fall off the Cardinals they could fall out of the Top 30. Either way, the games will be put in Quad 1 to begin.
Also of note will be how Clemson plays the rest of the season after losing Donte Grantham. The Tigers looked lost on offense in the second half, albeit against UVa’s top defense. Boston College and NC State meanwhile are holding on for dear life in Quad 2, a few more losses could push those to Quad 3 while the Georgia Tech game could move to Quad 2 with a few more Yellow Jacket wins.
