After a huge week that included a 61-36 drubbing of No. 18 Clemson and a 65-63 road victory over No. 4 Duke at Cameron Indoor, the Virginia Cavaliers stayed steady in the AP Poll.
It’s hard to move up too much when you’re No. 2.
The Hoos stayed put thanks to a 2-0 week by the reigning No. 1 Villanova Wildcats (20-1, 7-1 Big East) and are sandwiched on the other side by the No. 3 Purdue Boilermakers (21-2, 10-0 Big Ten). This is the third straight week with the Wildcats, Hoos, and Boilermakers taking the top three spots.
Duke didn’t drop after losing to Virginia, staying at No. 4. Michigan State moved up one spot to No. 5 to round out the top five.
Xavier, Kansas, Cincinnati, Arizona, and Texas Tech complete the top ten.
Virginia’s one loss this season came against West Virginia, who have now lost four of their last five games and fell to No. 15 this week after losing to Kentucky. The Wildcats (the Kentucky version) spent just one week out of the poll and are back in at No. 21 this week.
The ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, and SEC all have four teams represented this week. North Carolina (16-6, 5-4 ACC) dropped to No. 19 after losing at home to NC State, and Clemson fell just two spots to No. 20 after losing to Virginia and beating Georgia Tech on the road.
