Chris Long gave his entire base salary to charity last year, providing $1 million in order to launch educational programs in Charlottesville, St. Louis, Boston, and Philadelphia. Long intends to continue his philanthropic ways again this season, pledging to donate around $400,000 from his paycheck to help put books in the hands of underprivileged children.

In the spring, UVA announced that long time assistant Jason Williford, who played for the Hoos in the 1990s, would be promoted to the position of associate head coach. In a recent discussion on the topic, Williford called it "a huge honor." Ritchie McKay and Ron Sanchez, the last two coaches to hold this title under Head Coach Tony Bennett, have gone on to become head coaches at Liberty and Charlotte, respectively.
