Yesterday we explained why the upcoming 2018-19 basketball season should provide a new hope for Virginia fans, our weekly recap of ‘Hoos in the NFL and Week 6’s Bowl Watch. Virginia football has a bye this weekend which means no Bronco Mendenhall for your Saturday, but his team is still making headlines.
Here’s what you might’ve missed elsewhere around the corner:
Virginia punter Lester Coleman is consistent player and calm presence on the field for the Cavaliers, but his impact off the field is even more impressive. CBS19 looks at Coleman’s involvements in the community, like his trips to visit the UVA Children’s Hospital and local schools throughout Charlottesville.
Kyler Murray does not play for Virginia, we know. But strong safety Juan Thornhill does. ESPN Insider Mel Kiper listed Thornhill as an “almost-famous under-the-radar prospect,” for the 2019 NFL draft.
“With eight career interceptions and a knack for breaking up passes, Thornhill has emerged as a potential Day 2 pick in 2019. He plays a rover-type position for the Cavaliers, and he played some cornerback early in his college career. At 6-foot, 210 pounds, he can play close to the line of scrimmage and help in the run game. It’s that support in the run game that has most popped up on tape; he has 31 tackles so far this season.”
ESPN’s Jay Bilas visited Charlottesville to chat with the team ahead of the upcoming season. Bilas took a break from talking some serious college hoops to have a little fun with Kyle Guy and Jack Salt.
Need to see more of Kyle Guy with an Australian accent? We do too. This one is even Isaiah Wilkins approved.
