A group of Duke students are taking an interesting approach to trying to intimidate the Virginia basketball team when the Hoos head to Cameron Indoor in January. Barstool Blue Devils, a twitter affiliate of Barstool Sports, took to the twitter-sphere Friday afternoon to put out an unusual request:
Folks, @KJ_Maura24 (yes, that guy from UMBC) has agreed to come to the Virginia game in January. The Crazies are trying to make this happen, and one of the Head Line Monitors has created a GoFundMe. Contribute some money and let's make Kyle Guy weep https://t.co/IOO3JWpLoz

The group is asking for monetary support to fly UMBC’s KJ Maura to the game. Maura went undrafted after graduating in 2018, but is playing for Santeros de Aguada of the Baloncesto Superior Nacional (BSN) in Puerto Rico.
Kyle Guy was the obvious target as he was mentioned in the tweet, and the “Co-Head Line Monitors” who wrote up the body of the Go Fund Me page included this oh-so-clever paragraph:
Imagine the fear of God in Kyle Guy’s eyes when he sees KJ Maura on the sideline. He keeps his eyes trained on the man who knocked him out of the 2018 NCAA Tournament in the biggest upset in March Madness history. His worst college moment, relived in Cameron.
Although they didn’t tag Guy, our plucky guard found the tweet and had the kind of reaction only he can:
Wahoos, let’s make this happen.. https://t.co/IgkO9Xmu3l

The Maryland fans tried to get into Guy’s head before the ACC-Big Ten matchup this season, leading to Guy pouring in 15 points before halftime and drilling five three-pointers in the game.
“Before the game they [the students] were showing me selfies of me and my fiancé trying to get in my head, and they had the sign of me on my knees at half court and stuff so, that’s their fault,” Guy said with a smile on his face after the Hoos won at Maryland.
As a whole, the Cavaliers were unbothered by the Terps’ UMBC chatter, especially as the Maryland fans filed out of the Xfinity Center disappointed.
The biggest question is why Maura, who had 10 points and three rebounds in UMBC’s historic upset, would agree to this circus act.

We’re not mad, we’re just disappointed. The Go Fund Me was up to $412 of the needed $555 to fly Maura out at the time of publish. Virginia plays at Duke on January 19.
