Happy Holidays

...from the entire team here at Streaking the Lawn!

In the spirit of the holidays, we’ve once again donated 100% of our profits to charity. This year, we chose to give to the UVA Children’s Hospital, a public hospital that won’t turn families or patients away, even if they are unable to pay for their care.

This is my favorite post to write this year, because it gives me a moment to reflect on the past year. From an athletics standpoint, both as fans and as media, we’ve gone through an historic year, with what’s felt like both the highest of highs and lowest of lows. We’ve written a ton of articles, sifted through bajillion comments (some of which productive, some of which...less so!), and ridden this roller coaster ride alongside each and every one of you.

But this post keeps us grounded. Because no matter what the teams have done on or in the field, pitch, court, diamond, water, track, course, links, mat, nothing compares to what we all do in real life. We’re thrilled to support the UVA Children’s Hospital, nationally ranked in the Top 50 in six different specialties.

We’re not the only ones. A number of Virginia Cavaliers teams also choose to support the Children’s Hospital on their own. The football team, for example, goes every Friday before a home game to hang out with the kids and their families, delivering UVA swag along the way. Last year, they started “Hoos Together for the Holidays,” raising money and delivering nearly 200 presents this year and last year combined. Here’s a picture of some of the team dropping off gifts. Can you guess who’s in the Santa costume?

If you guessed offensive lineman Ben Trent, give yourself a pat on the back and be concerned about how well you know these guys! Many of Thursday’s Heroes are also patients at the UVA Children’s Hospital.

Virginia’s softball team also visits throughout the fall semester, spending time with the patience while dropping off coloring books, stickers, room decorations, games, and softball t-shirts. The men’s basketball team and the tennis teams also visit the Children’s Hospital to say hello to the kids.

Thank you for riding along with us all year long. We wish you all a very happy holiday season and a wonderful 2019 full of record-setting performances across the board!
