The University of Virginia football program picked up a surprise commitment this morning from Rutgers transfer, offensive tackle Marcus Applefield.

Coming out of high school in 2014, the consensus 3-star prospect chose Rutgers over Virginia, Purdue and Maryland.
The 6’6” 290 pound, four time Academic All-Big 10 selection comes to the Virginia Cavaliers after spending four seasons at Rutgers and will enroll at UVA as a graduate transfer next fall. As a graduate transfer, he’ll be able to play immediately without any redshirt year.
At Rutgers, Applefield started as right guard in 10 of 12 games in 2017 after playing in 15 career games prior to last season.
