We said last week that the Cavaliers were already sitting pretty based off the metrics the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee would use.
After going 2-0 in road games against Syracuse and Florida State, UVa is looking even better this week.
Thanks to home losses by Villanova and Purdue, the Hoos were able to open up a lead on the competition in the RPI and leave no doubt in anyone’s mind that if the Tournament started today, they would be the #1 overall seed.
Here is how Virginia’s team sheet looks this week.
The wins on the road against FSU and Syracuse gave UVa two more Quad 1 victories. As it stands now, Virginia has the third most Quad 1 victories, behind Villanova, with nine, and Kansas, with eight. However, Villanova has a Quad 2 loss, and Kansas has two Quad 2 losses and a Quad 3 loss.
This upcoming week, Virginia takes on Virginia Tech at home, which will likely be a Quad 2 game, and another road game at Miami. Miami currently sits at No. 19 in the RPI, so that will give UVa another Quad 1 game.
