Well, it’s official: the Wahoos are going to have a tropical Thanksgiving in 2018. The Virginia Men’s Basketball released that the Cavaliers are one of the eight teams that will participate in the 2018 Bad Boy Mowers Battle 4 Atlantis at Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island in the Bahamas.
The tournament lasts three days, November 21-23, and features 12 games in one of Atlantis’ ballrooms that is modified to hold around 4,000 fans. Tickets and travel packages are not yet available, but more information can be found here.
Wisconsin, Florida, Oklahoma, Butler, Stanford, Dayton and Middle Tennessee State are slated to join the Wahoos for the tournament.
This is the tournament’s eighth year, with Villanova beating Northern Iowa this past fall in the championship game. Villanova and UNI were joined by Arizona, NC State, Purdue, Tennessee, SMU, and Western Kentucky. Heavy hitters are known to be invited to the event with Villanova (No. 2), Purdue (No. 10), Tennessee (No. 13), and Arizona (No. 15) all ranked in this week’s AP Poll.
Virginia has won five straight early-season tournaments, emerging as champions in the Corpus Christi Challenge (2013), Barclays Center Classic (2014), Charleston Classic (2015), Emerald Coast Classic (2016), and NIT Season Tip-Off (2017).
This isn’t much of a surprise as the Hoos were reported to be participating in the event back in August of 2017, but the confirmation just means it’s time to start convincing the family that Atlantis is the place to be for Thanksgiving.
