The University of Virginia Athletics Department announced this week that they’ll be introducing the first ever “Wahoowa Weekend” this upcoming April 27-29. The weekend will feature home sporting events in football, track and field, baseball, and potentially the ACC men’s lacrosse tournament.
Here’s the breakdown of the weekend’s festivities:
Friday, April 27
4pm: Baseball vs. Clemson - Game One
The Hoos and Tigers face off in the first game of the weekend series. Clemson is currently second in the Atlantic Division standings at 10-5. Tickets are on sale for $2 currently, and can be purchased online here.
6pm/8:30pm: ACC Men’s Lacrosse Tournament - Semifinals
Virginia took a good first step to earning a spot in the ACC tournament with last weekend’s big win over North Carolina for their first conference win since 2014. The Hoos will still need to beat Duke this weekend (or have North Carolina lose to either Syracuse or Notre Dame) to make the tournament.
Saturday, April 28
11am: Track and Field Virginia Grand Prix
Last year’s event featured 23 teams, including a handful of ACC teams like Duke, UNC, NCSU, Pitt, and VT. Plus, they’ll have free ice cream (Ben & Jerry’s!) for fans starting at 3pm.
1pm: Baseball vs. Clemson - Game Two
The theme for Saturday’s game is Princess & Super Hero Day, which is awesome.
2pm: Football Final Spring Practice
The Hoos will host their last spring practice of the season at Scott Stadium. From the Virginia release:
The stadium’s East, West and North gates open at 12:30 p.m. for pre-game activities for fans on the concourse and field until 1:30 p.m. Following the football team’s practice, a 30-minute autograph session will take place on the field at approximately 4 p.m. Admission and parking are free.
Fans attending will have an opportunity to pick-up the 2018 Virginia football schedule poster and schedule cards. The UVA equipment staff will also hold its annual sale of used equipment, including football jerseys and helmets.
A UVA student tailgate will take place at Scott Stadium’s northeast concourse. Free pizza and Pepsi will be provided to the first 500 UVA students beginning at 12:30 p.m. as well as a voucher for a free Virginia Football t-shirt.
Sunday, April 29
12pm: ACC Men’s Lacrosse Tournament - Finals
1pm: Baseball vs. Clemson - Game Three
In the conclusion of the homestand, there will be a trading card giveaway along with an autograph session and chance for kids to run the bases.
