The Virginia men’s lacrosse team will be headed to postseason play for the first time since 2015 and the first time under second-year head coach Lars Tiffany to face No. 6 Loyola in Baltimore.
For a school with one of the most storied lacrosse programs in the country, the two-year drought has felt like an eternity—it was the first time in 40 years that Virginia had missed back-to-back postseason appearances, dating back to 1977, when the Hoos missed the tournament for the third straight year.
So, in anticipation and with confidence, the team gathered tonight in the locker room to watch the NCAA Selection Show.
But you know what they say...waiting is the hardest part.
Finally, when ESPN revealed that the Hoos would be traveling to Baltimore to face sixth-seeded Loyola, the room erupts with excitement, including a few fist pumps from Coach Tiffany himself.
Virginia opened the season with a double overtime 13-12 win over Loyola. The Hoos and the Greyhounds will face off at 7:15 p.m. on Saturday, May 12. Baltimore’s not a far drive for most of you, but in case you can’t make it, the game will be broadcast on ESPNU.
