We’re so excited about our two newest contributors and everything they’re bringing to the table.

It’s Friday, July 13, which means it’s the offseason for the Virginia Cavaliers and, other than on the recruiting trail, there’s not really too much going on. Or at least, there wasn’t until this email. We’ve got BIG FRIDAY MORNING NEWS coming out of the Streaking the Lawn HQ today, We’re so excited to add not one but two new writers to our STL crew: Emily Caron (2018) and Sayer Paige (2019)!

Emily is one of the youths, having just graduated this past May. Her favorite spot on grounds is John Paul Jones Arena, where she’s spent more hours there than in class she cares to admit. Emily’s favorite UVA sports memory revolves around the 2016 ACC Men’s Basketball Tournament, one that ended in a loss in the finals, but gave her the opportunity to watch Malcolm Brogdon, Anthony Gill, and London Perrantes all ball out together on the same court that she grew up watching the Wizards play on.

Her deep, dark, dirty little secret? She grew up in an all-Penn State family, so she really didn’t have UVA on her radar until she decided to attend in 2014 (conveniently and suspiciously timed with when Virginia won its first ACC tournament title in decades, don’t you think). So while she purports to be #TeamVirginia and #TeamACC all the way, Big Ten football still holds a place in her heart. She also wants to make sure you know that she is “100% not your girl” if you’re an always-optimistic person. So expect some realistic coverage from her this season.

Also one of the youths, Sayer comes to us with the voice of the current student—the only one on the current staff that can boast this. He transferred to UVA starting his second year, coming from Boston College, where he played on the varsity tennis team. His favorite UVA moments came from last year’s basketball season, remembering De`Andre Hunter’s game winner over Louisville and watching UVA lose to UMBC Tony Bennett’s speech after the tragic UMBC loss.

Sayer purports to name almost every single Division 1 mascot, a claim we couldn’t let go untested. So, we found this 2017 quiz on the 130 college football mascots and put him to the test:

He didn’t disappoint. He defends his two misses—Arkansas State is actually the Red Wolves, so Sporcle is [shockingly] wrong. And with FIU, he says couldn’t remember Golden, so we’ll give him half credit.

Both Emily and Sayer will be joining us throughout this offseason and will slowly start rolling their coverage in. They’ll both be an integral part of our football coverage as we enter the 2018-2019 season. You can find Emily on Twitter at @_emcaron, and you can find Sayer there at @sayerpaige. Join us in welcoming these two new rockstars.
