Virginia Cavaliers updates on the field and in the press. Let’s get right into it:
UVA Men's Basketball gets votes for best team in coaches survey (CBSSports.com)
In CBS Sports' annual series Candid Coaches, more than 100 anonymous coaches weighed in who they predicted to be the best team in 2018-2019. Kansas led the way, earning 38% of the vote, followed by Kentucky at 18%, and Duke at 15%. Virginia finished sixth in the poll at 5%.
Tiki Barber teaming up with brother Ronde on Fox again for the NFL season (Roanoke Times)
Former UVA standouts Tiki and Ronde Barber will be a part of the same broadcast crew for Fox Sports for the first two weeks of the NFL regular season. Tiki, who will serve as a temporary sideline reporter for the company, and Ronde, a game analyst for Fox for six years, will cover the New York Giants - Jacksonville game in week one, and the Philadelphia - Tampa Bay game in week two.
Eli Hanback's crucial steady presence on the defensive line (Daily Progress)
On the defensive side of the ball, we've talked about the talent in the secondary and, at times, at the linebacker position. What has often worried the coaching staff and fans alike throughout summer and fall camp has been the depth on the defensive line. Eli Hanback, a 300 pound, 6-foot-4 junior, has been the one consistent mark for the team in this area over the last several months. Hanback's role, as this article highlights, will only continue to increase, both as a leader and a playmaker, as the Hoos try to resolve their D-line issues.
Four-Star Big Kadin Shedrick Commits to Virginia (Streaking the Lawn)
We don’t typically link to our own story here, but this is important. Virginia landed four-star big Kadin Shedrick following his unofficial visit to grounds. In an interview with Stockrisers, Shedrick said he chose the Hoos because of the “great opportunity for my family and I,” adding that “UVA has a great program that I believe will help develop me greatly.”
