One of the newest members of the Virginia Cavaliers Women’s Basketball Team impresses her head coach, UVA’s goalkeeper receives some conference praise after his stellar performance on Friday night, and Micah Kiser keeps on tackling (as per usual). Read all about it on today’s Around The Corner. Hopefully it will help you get through hump day a little quicker.
New women’s basketball head coach Tina Thompson posted an Instagram of freshman Erica Martinsen working on her shot yesterday. Martinsen, who scored over 2,000 points in high school, drills nine consecutive threes in the video. I’m sure we’ll see some of this long range ability at JPJ in the coming years.
The ACC named UVA’s redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Colin Shutler the Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week. Shutler was critical in Virginia’s season opening win over New Hampshire last week, making a critical save in a late game breakaway opportunity for the opposition.

Micah Kiser continues to shine in Los Angeles (Rams Talk)
Micah Kiser was a tackling machine in Charlottesville throughout his collegiate career, and he has continued to show that ability in the pros. While it is still just the preseason, the LA Rams already have reason to believe that they found a steal of a draft pick in the fifth round by selecting Kiser. In his last game against the Texans, he earned a 91.5 overall grade for his performance. With numbers like that, expect Kiser to see the field during the regular season sooner rather than later.
TOTD:
The grounds crew began laying down the paint on the field yesterday in preparation for the first game of the season. We can’t wait to see how it looks on Saturday night!
