The Virginia Cavaliers began fall camp yesterday, which means we are that much closer to the football season. Several of the players took to Twitter to showcase their excitement. Here’s senior Juan Thornhill:

After practice, Coach Bronco Mendenhall talked with reporters about the team’s mentality, something he’s valued since first coming to Charlottesville, “We’re just a different level maturity wise as a team,” adding that last season has “framed an urgency.”
While energy and expectation remain high, the coaching staff still has work to do before play kicks off. Regarding Bryce Perkins, UVA’s new starting quarterback, Mendenhall touched on the importance of repetition. On just day one, “We gave [Perkins] a heavy, heavy load today in terms of volume,” the head coach spoke.
Depth has also been an issue raised by many of the pundits, including us at STL. Last year, UVA played the fourth most freshmen of any FBS team in the country. On the issue, Mendenhall offered, “We’re closer, but still a significant distance away [...] we’re becoming deeper, but the depth is still really young.”
The Hoos have four more weeks of practice before they play their opener against Richmond on September 1. For more, check out some of the highlights from yesterday below:
