Streaking the Lawn’s Week 2 ACC Football Power Rankings

We’re now two weeks into the college football season. It’s certainly been something. The ACC is becoming much more clear. Clemson is going to have literally nobody that can beat them in conference. Ugh.

Here is how we think the conference shakes out after two weeks.

1. Clemson Tigers (2-0, 0-0). Last week: 1
Last game: win 28-26 at Texas A&M Aggies. This week: vs. Georgia Southern

Dabo Christ knows what it’s like to play in Aggieland now. Should help in the future. Horseface McGee went 5/9 for 93 yards but 64 of them came from a ball that should not have been thrown and 99% of college receivers would not have caught.

2. Virginia Tech Hokies (2-0, 1-0). Last week: 2
Last game: win 62-17 vs. William and Mary. This week: too scared to play ECU

If Tech had been more understanding, this game might have been played. Alas, they were too scared of the Jolly Rogers.

3. Boston College Eagles (2-0, 0-0). Last week: 3
Last game: win 62-14 vs. Holy Cross. This week: at Wake Forest

Three teams in and we have reached the “Is this team really that good or what?” level. Holy Cross and UMass have given us nothing to base BC off. Wake might not. BC won’t face their first real test until 10/6 at NC State, where they’ll probably be 5-0.

4. Miami-Florida Hurricanes (1-1, 0-0). Last week: 4
Last game: win 77-0 vs. Savannah State. This week: at Toledo

Two years ago the Canes played Appalachian State in Boone. This year they are traveling to Toledo. Kudos to Miami for traveling to G5 opponents. Should be more of a thing in college football. And less neutral site games.

5. N.C. State Wolfpack (2-0, 0-0). Last week: 5
Last game: win 41-7 vs. Georgia State. This week: vs. West Virginia Mountaineers

Like the Tech-ECU debacle, nobody really knows what happened between State and WVU to not play at all. It’ll be interesting to see if the Wolfpack can pick up a makeup game. They have at least 4 easily winnable games left on the schedule, so a bowl shouldn’t be a concern.

6. Duke Blue Devils (2-0, 0-0). Last week: 7
Last game win 21-7 at Northwestern Wildcats. This week: at Baylor Bears

Duke could win the Coastal. Read that again, but out loud this time, and think about it. David Cutcliffe is a wizard. Unfortunately, he just lost QB Daniel Jones for a few weeks with a broken collarbone. We’ll see if Cut is more Neville Longbottom or Hermione.

7. Louisville Cardinals (1-1, 0-0). Last week: 8
Last game: win 31-7 vs Indiana State. This week: Western Kentucky

I don’t know. They got bonesmoked by Bama and then boatraced Indiana State. Now they play an 0-2 WKU team and are favored by 22.5. I guess we’ll see what Louisville is next weekend in Charlottesville.

8. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (1-1, 0-0). Last week: 9
Last game: loss 49-38 at South Florida Bulls. This week: at Pitt

GT outgained USF 602 to 426 and had possession of the football for 11 more minutes, yet still lost by 11. The power of the triple option is real.

9. Wake Forest Demon Deacons (2-0, 0-0). Last week: 12
Last game: win 51-20 vs. Towson. This week vs. BC

Like the team they’ll play this week, Wake is 2-0 and nobody has a clue. I think we’ll all lean towards “probably not” but weirder things have happened.

10. Florida State Seminoles (1-1, 0-1). Last week: 6
Last game: win 36-26 vs. Samford. This week: at Syracuse

If this team wasn’t “Florida State” they would be 13th in the poll. Yeesh.

11. Virginia Cavaliers (1-1, 0-0). Last week: 11
Last game: loss 20-16 at Indiana. This week: vs. Ohio (Nashville)

My only question is why weren’t the receivers wearing gloves in a downpour? Do the gloves not work when wet? Why don’t they have gloves that work when wet?

12. Syracuse Orange (2-0, 0-0). Last week: 12
Last game: win 62-10 vs. Wagner. This week: vs. FSU

BC, Syracuse, Wake, Lousville. Can we force the Atlantic to tell us something before week 3 next season?

13. Pittsburgh Panthers (1-1, 0-0). Last week: 10
Last game: loss 51-6 vs. Penn State. This week: vs. GT

End of 1st Quarter: Pitt only down 7-6. Wow, maybe they aren’t that bad.
Halftime: Only down 14-6. HOLD ON FOR ONE MORE HALF!
End of game: 51-6. Why you gotta do that Penn State?

14. North Carolina Tar Heels (0-2, 0-0). Last week: 14
Last game: loss 41-19 at ECU. This week: vs. Central Florida Knights

Yikes.
