Streaking the Lawn’s Week 1 ACC Football Power Rankings

NCAA Football: Furman at Clemson Joshua S. Kelly-USA TODAY Sports

One week in and the Virginia Cavaliers are undefeated and in the thick of the College Football Playoff Hunt. Most of the rest of the ACC is as well, except North Carolina, because they look like they might be trash.

Here’s how the staff at Streaking the Lawn ranks out the ACC after the first week.

1. Clemson Tigers (1-0, 0-0). Last week: 1
Last game: win 48-7 vs. Furman. This week: at Texas A&M Aggies

The Fightin Dabos let Furman score a TD, which was probably the biggest surprise to come out of Death Valley. Dabo scheduling another SEC West team, and they announced games with LSU recently. It’s like he’s trying to practice against the SEC West for some reason.

2. Virginia Tech Hokies (1-0, 1-0). Last week: 6
Last game: win 24-3 at FSU. This week: vs. William and Mary

I’ll admit, I was impressed. I expected FSU to win going away. Instead, Tech made them look they hadn’t practiced offense in the offseason. Granted, Tech had a few guys get “hurt” along the way which helped.

3. Boston College Eagles (1-0, 0-0). Last week: 7
Last game: win 55-21 vs. UMASS. This week: vs. Holy Cross

UMass and Holy Cross on back to back weeks is some impressive scheduling. The Eagles could be 5-0 before entering the meat of their ACC schedule and playing Miami, VT, Clemson, and FSU towards the end of the season.

4. Miami-Florida Hurricanes (0-1, 0-0). Last week: 2
Last game: loss 33-17 vs. LSU Tigers (in Dallas). This week: vs. Savannah State

Miami outgained LSU by nearly 50 yards and almost doubled their passing yards. The bad news for the Canes was 11 penalties for 85 yards and throwing 2 interceptions to LSU’s 0 turnovers. Savannah State, Toledo, and FIU should get Miami back on track and to 3-1 on the season.

5. N.C. State Wolfpack (1-0, 0-0). Last week: 4
Last game: win 24-13 vs. JMU. This week: vs. Georgia State

Yes, the Wolfpack struggled against an FCS team, but credit to JMU who put up a hell of a fight. Now the Pack get another warm up game before taking on West Virginia next weekend.

6. Florida State Seminoles (0-1, 0-1). Last week: 3
Last game: loss 24-3 vs. Virginia Tech. This week: vs. Samford

Eeehhhhhh, probably not how Taggert drew up his debut as FSU’s head coach. Yea, I cant imagine he wanted it to go that way.

7 (tie). Louisville Cardinals (0-1, 0-0). Last week: 6
Last game: loss 51-14 vs. Alabama Crimson Tide (in Orlando). This week: vs. Indiana State

Poor Cardinals. Playing the death machine from Tuscaloosa can’t be fun. Also, we have no idea if Louisville is any good this year. Putting a middle school team against an NFL team doesn’t tell us anything.

7 (tie). Duke Blue Devils (1-0, 0-0). Last week: 11
Last game: win 34-14 vs. Army. This week: at Northwestern

Daniel Jones looked pretty good for the Blue Devils against the Knights throwing for 197 yards and a touchdown. Northwestern and Baylor in the next two weeks give Duke more opportunities to score Ws against semi-impressive opponents and serve notice to the Coastal.

9. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (1-0, 0-0). Last week: 10
Last game: win 41-0 vs. Alcorn State. This week: at South Florida

The Jackets rushed for 439 yards against Alcorn State. FOUR HUNDRED AND THIRTY NINE. Paul Johnson is the devil but also a wizard.

10 (tie). Virginia Cavaliers (1-0, 0-0). Last week: 12
Last game: win 42-13 vs. Richmond. This week: at Indiana Hoosiers

Bryce Perkins looked great for all but one throw in the first half. Granted, I only got to see like 13 of the game thanks to WatchESPN freezing constantly.

10 (tie). Pittsburgh Panthers (1-0, 0-0). Last week: 9
Last game: win 33-7 vs. Albany. This week: vs. Penn State Nittany Lions

PSU was nearly upset by Appalachian State this past weekend but I think we all expect the Nittany Lions to do mean things to the Panthers this weekend.

12. Wake Forest Demon Deacons (1-0, 0-0). Last week: 8
Last game: win (OT) 23-17 at Tulane Green Wave. This week: vs. Towson

Credit to Wake for opening up on the road against a non-Power 5 school. Freshman QB Sam Hartman passed for 378 yards and 2 touchdowns. The freshman also lead the team with 64 yards on the ground.

13. Syracuse Orange (1-0, 0-0). Last week: 14
Last game: win 55-42 at Western Michigan Broncos. This week: Wagner

Eric Dungey is going to be a problem for everyone on Cuse’s schedule this season. The senior rushed for 200 yards and passed for another 184 and 2 touchdowns. The most concerning part for Syracuse has to be allowing 42 points to Western Michigan. Can’t happen against better defenses.

14. North Carolina Tar Heels (0-1, 0-0). Last week: 13
Last game: loss 24-17 at California Golden Bears. This week: at East Carolina Pirates

Woof. Gross. Just try and be better, Heels.
