Virginia moves up one spot to No. 3 in latest AP Poll

Tennessee takes over the top spot for the second time in school history.

Virginia’s last regular season loss resulted in the Hoos moving up in the poll. Well, the same happened this year as the Cavaliers moved up one spot to No. 3 after dropping a game at Duke. It was the Hoos’ first loss of the season, but followed a definitive 22-point win over then-No. 9 Virginia Tech.

Tennessee became the fourth team to claim the No. 1 spot this season, with Duke dropping to No. 2 (they also lost to Syracuse this week before the win over UVA). Gonzaga moved up to No. 4, followed by No. 5 Michigan.

The ACC tied the SEC this week with six teams in the poll, led by the Blue Devils and Cavaliers. No. 10 Virginia Tech, No. 11 North Carolina, No. 21 NC State, and No. 23 Louisville also represented the conference in this week’s rankings.

Virginia’s win over Maryland is looking better and better as the Terps moved up to No. 13.
