Virginia stays put at No. 3 in latest AP Poll

No change to the top six teams this week.

The Virginia Cavaliers didn’t move in the AP Poll this week, staying put at No. 3 for the second straight week. The Hoos did get one more first place vote this week, bumping their total to four. Tennessee remained No. 1, followed by No. 2 Duke.

There were no changes in the top six as No. 4 Gonzaga, No. 5 Michigan, and No. 6 Michigan State all came in at the same spot as last week’s poll. Kentucky moved up one spot to take over No. 7 from Nevada, who dropped to No. 8. North Carolina and Marquette round out the top 10.

The ACC led all conferences with seven teams in the top 25, including three in the top 10. Virginia Tech (No. 12), Louisville (No. 15), NC State (No. 23) and Florida State (No. 25) join Duke, Virginia, and North Carolina in the poll this week. Virginia still has six games left against the current ranked ACC teams, starting with a matchup with NC State on Tuesday night in Raleigh.

In “teams Virginia beat in the non-conference” action, Maryland lost both of their games this week and dropped from No. 13 to No. 21, while Wisconsin re-joined the rankings at No. 24.
